I was lucky enough to be able to go out on the water in Fremantle on 18 August 2016 to take some photos of the Duyfken 1606 Replica, leaving its home at Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour on a 10 week voyage, on the way stopping at Bunbury, Mandurah, Hillarys Boat Harbour, Jurien Bay, Dongara, Geraldton and Denham. It will be part of the 400th commemorative celebrations, marking the very first landing of Europeans to Western Australia, just north of Shark Bay, namely by Dutch Captain Dirk Hartog and his crew aboard the original Duyfken.
This ship was a good subject to manipulate the original photo into a ‘painting’. In 1606, cameras were a long way off being invented!
